A is for Appaloosa

acrylic and charcoal on birch

word suggestion from Lindsey, age 11

I had no idea Appaloosas were at one time extremely rare. The Nez Perce Indians breed them and held them in high regard. But then, for no apparent reason other than cruelty and man's inhumanity to man (and animals) they were killed off by white settlers to almost the point of extinction. Some were protected by the Indians and later brought back. An appaloosa is considered beautiful for its unique markings. That's why I like them...its a good thing to be celebrated for being uniquely you and just the way you are...spots and all.
